Gustavo Cerbasi, autor de livros sobre finanças pessoais, fala sobre o que considera os melhores investimentos 

Gustavo Cerbasi é um guru das finanças pessoais. Seu maior best-seller, Casais Inteligentes Enriquecem Juntos, já vendeu mais de um milhão de exemplares e, segundo ele, já ajudou muita gente a evitar um desastre no relacionamento.

Sua trajetória pessoal e profissional lhe dá um bom gabarito para falar de dinheiro e oferecer conselhos sobre vida financeira. Formado em administração pela FGV, Cerbasi começou a carreira trabalhando na área de finanças e por muitos anos deu aulas sobre o assunto. Foi nessas aulas que ele descobriu a demanda por mais informações sobre finanças pessoais. Ele falava de empresas, mas os alunos queriam conselhos sobre suas próprias rotinas.

Quando começou a preparar a apostila para um novo curso, acabou dando aula para o dono de uma editora, que o convidou a escrever o primeiro livro: Dinheiro – Os segredos de quem tem.

Cerbasi vinha de um período de muito trabalho. Ele e a esposa, Adriana, ralaram dobrado para pagar o casamento que tanto queriam. A festa aconteceu em 2002. Após perceber que, com um esforço extra o dinheiro chegava, decidiram continuar no ritmo acelerado por mais um tempo. O cansaço bateu e, após a publicação do primeiro livro, os dois decidiram passar uns meses morando no Canadá.

Durante o sabático, Cerbasi trocou muitos emails com gente que lia seu livro e mandava dúvidas ou críticas. Muitas mensagens eram de pessoas que diziam não conseguir aplicar os conselhos porque maridos ou esposas não colaboravam. Aí nasceu a ideia do seu livro de maior sucesso. Ele se tornou escritor profissional e hoje dá palestras por todo o Brasil.

Ah, sim, nesse meio tempo ele conquistou o sonho do primeiro milhão. Aproveitou 2002, ano em que a bolsa estava muito desvalorizada, o mesmo de seu casamento, e aplicou em ações o dinheiro de um apartamento que haviam vendido e do seguro de um carro roubado. Em pouco mais de três anos, multiplicou o patrimônio.

Nesta entrevista, ele fala sobre investimentos, relacionamentos e aposentadoria. Mas também sobre qualidade de vida e como devemos valorizar o momento presente, sem deixar tudo para amanhã ou ano que vem.

Você diz que não quer estimular as pessoas a acumularem, mas sim encontrar um equilíbrio. O que significa esse equilíbrio pra você?
Eu dei consultoria entre 2002 e 2008. Nesse período, percebi que aquelas pessoas que se saíam muito bem e poupavam muito mais do que o recomendado, mais cedo ou mais tarde se arrependiam. Geralmente esse arrependimento estava ligado à perda de uma pessoa querida ou de uma oportunidade. Por exemplo, tudo que se queria era fazer uma viagem de 50 anos de casamento e de repente a pessoa amada morria. Aí a pessoa não só deixava de poupar como tendia a se desfazer muito rápido da sua poupança em resposta a uma frustração. O sentido da vida não estava no presente, mas no futuro.

Quando comecei a constatar casos assim, passei a valorizar ideia de que planejamento financeiro não é para o futuro, é para o presente. O futuro é consequência de um bom presente. É parecido com a minha ideia de educação dos filhos [ele tem três]: eu não estou nem um pouco preocupado com o futuro deles, estou preocupado com o presente, de ser um bom pai, de dar um bom exemplo, de dar uma boa educação. Porque crianças bem educadas vão se virar no futuro.

Eu batalho contra a ideia de tirar do presente e colocar no futuro. Quero que as pessoas vivam seu presente da melhor maneira, cuidando para que esse presente não falte no futuro. É quase a mesma coisa, né? Mas as escolhas que as pessoas fazem a partir dessa reflexão são diferentes. Veja, quando você pensa em presente bem vivido, não procura coisas supérfluas a serem cortadas. Valoriza o que te faz bem, que podem ser cuidados pessoais, lazer, curtir shows. As pessoas que pensam só em poupar para o futuro tendem a cortar o que é fácil. Mas quando você corta a manicure, o cafezinho e as viagens de férias fica, apesar de construir racionalmente um futuro, emocionalmente abalada.

É como se as pessoas quisessem viver em tempos de guerra hoje para quem sabe um dia viver muito bem?
Exatamente. A verdade é que ninguém é disciplinado para poupar. É algo que você constrói e a principal base da disciplina é a motivação. Se você quer se alimentar bem, tem que gostar do que come. Se você quer manter a disciplina da poupança, não pode sentir como se estivesse destruindo o presente. Porque aí, mesmo que racionalmente você queira poupar, emocionalmente seu cérebro começa a se defender. A pessoa que deixa de lado o que lhe dá prazer para organizar as contas vai se sentir ansiosa e frustrada. Precisamos ter válvulas de escape para a vida estressante que levamos. A vida burocrática, de acordar, comer, trabalhar e dormir só funciona na matemática. Você pode se cuidar. Isso às vezes falta para as pessoas que se organizam de uma maneira excessivamente racional.

Qual o segredo então?
A fórmula para uma vida mais rica é adotar uma vida mais simples em termos de custo para não perder em experiência e qualidade de vida. Em geral, a regra é simples: você tem um carro de R$ 60 mil, venda e compre um de R$ 40 mil. Tem casa de R$ 500 mil, compre ou alugue uma de R$ 400 mil. Quando você compra um carro mais barato vai economizar IPVA, seguro, não vai ficar com tanto medo de estacionar na rua… Às vezes, uma ou duas escolhas na sua vida trazem uma cadeia de redução de custos que vão facilitar muito a administração do orçamento. Por isso, prefiro morar numa casa um pouco menos confortável e sair dela no fim de semana do que pagar uma casa melhor e não ter lazer ou uma vida bem cuidada. Aí a conta fecha com uma facilidade incrível.

Quem dá dicas para guardar dinheiro geralmente fala na importância de ter objetivos. Você concorda?
Sim. A primeira coisa para poupar é ter certeza de que você não vai gastar mais do que ganha. O único jeito de ter essa certeza é ter certa flexibilidade no orçamento, porque imprevistos acontecem sempre. Só que o brasileiro – que tem o orçamento todo tomado por prestações, porque aprendemos a comprar a prazo e nos tornamos viciados nisso – vai ter muita dificuldade para lidar com imprevistos.

Em segundo lugar, sim, para poupar é necessário ter um rótulo para cada centavo. Vou poupar para quê? Você precisa de objetivos. Tem também outra lição importante que é  “pague-se primeiro”. Guarde o dinheiro para os sonhos antes de qualquer coisa. Ou seja, quando o salário cair na sua conta, você já reserva x reais pra próxima viagem, y para a faculdade do filho. Coloque logo na poupança ou na aplicação que você achar melhor. Se no final do mês faltar dinheiro para pagar as contas do dia-a-dia, tome emprestado.

Isso faz sentido?
Você pode pensar: a aplicação rende 0,7% ao mês e o empréstimo me custa 3%, por que vou tomar emprestado? Porque a aplicação é por 10, 15 anos. O dinheiro emprestado, se você for consciente, vai lidar rapidamente com aquilo. Se for um valor alto, os juros serão o preço a pagar por uma falha de planejamento. Matematicamente, parece que estou indo pelo caminho errado, mas conscientemente é o preço que eu pago para garantir um sonho e garantir um sonho vai trazer mais motivação para me manter mais disciplinado. Pague-se primeiro é orientação poderosa. O empréstimo eventual, desde que seja para gerar renda, montar negócio ou preservar grandes sonhos eu acho razoável. Empréstimo pra consumo, esse sim é pecado.

As opções de investimento no Brasil têm crescido nos últimos anos. Existe o melhor investimento?
Não existe o melhor investimento. Eu preciso conhecer muito bem a pessoa que quer investir o dinheiro, porque para algumas pessoas até um título de capitalização vai ser melhor. A capitalização – que tem rendimento negativo – pode ser um bom negócio, porque às vezes a pessoa é motivada pela loteria. Ela quase ganhou um prêmio, aí mantém a aplicação por 12, 15 meses. Quando liquida o título já tem massa de recursos para começar a investir em um terreno, em uma carteira de ações, não importa. Ela criou a disciplina necessária para o primeiro impulso, que é o mais difícil. Mas para a maioria dos brasileiros, que tem conta-salário e não tem serviços financeiros na conta, a poupança ainda é o melhor investimento. Digo com tranquilidade que o melhor investimento para qualquer pessoa é aquele com o qual a pessoa se sinta bem aprendendo sobre ele. Porque se pesquisar com curiosidade vai descobrir as falhas de determinado produto, um banco que oferece algo melhor e vai migrar seu dinheiro para um investimento mais eficiente.

Imóvel é investimento? Qual a sua opinião sobre uma possível bolha imobiliária no Brasil?
Primeiro, essa ideia de que imóvel é algo muito importante de se ter no Brasil vem de uma história recente de grande valorização imobiliária, de um país que há poucas décadas era predominantemente rural e passou a ser predominantemente urbano. Todo mundo que comprou imóvel em meados do século passado viu esse imóvel se valorizar muito em função do crescimento das cidades. Hoje isso já não acontece.

Acho arriscada uma análise como a do Shiller [Nobel que previu a bolha dos Estados Unidos e afirmou que o Brasil passaria por situação parecida]. Concordo com a análise de que mercado brasileiro tem certa saturação, concordo que período pós-Copa tende a ter certo refreamento dos preços, mas não concordo que seja hora de vender ou que talvez não seja hora de comprar. Porque toda média é burra. Se eu falar que mercado brasileiro vai perder 5% do valor nos imóveis, muita gente que tem imóvel com potencial de valorização pode se desfazer dele. Pode acontecer uma calamidade, uma guerra no país, sempre haverá regiões com potencial de valorização. Se o mercado brasileiro perder 5% ou 8% ou 10% – e nada disso caracteriza bolha – mesmo assim há bairros recebendo novos metrôs, shoppings, cidades se expandindo em função de certo eixo comercial. Não posso perder o foco dessas oportunidades simplesmente porque não é hora de comprar.

O que você diria para alguém que está num dilema se compra ou não imóvel?
Pode comprar. Mas, principalmente para não se arrepender, estude o plano diretor da sua cidade. Escute dois ou três corretores de imóveis, preferencialmente não relacionados ao imóvel que você quer negociar. Entre no site do Secovi, que dá um mapa, uma projeção de evolução do metro quadrado nas grandes cidades pra entender as grandes tendências.

Seu grande bestseller foi o livro Casais Inteligentes Enriquecem Juntos. Ele completa 10 anos em 2014. Você acha que algo mudou em relação ao dinheiro na vida a dois? Por que dinheiro continua sendo uma das principais causas de separação?
Mudou. Quando ele foi escrito, eu dizia que casais não conversavam sobre dinheiro. Hoje já não posso falar isso. Todas as revistas, sites, canais de televisão que tratam de variedades falam também de dinheiro. Não é mais um tabu, só que os casais ainda não falam sobre isso. Hoje é mais uma questão de falta de tempo, correria da vida moderna. O pouco tempo que os casais têm para convívio eles não querem falar de dinheiro.

Acho que ainda há um problema em relação à idade média dos primeiros compradores de imóvel, que segundo o Secovi está em torno dos 31 anos de idade. Isso para mim é radicalmente contrário ao bom planejamento financeiro. Comprar casa própria muito cedo engessa as escolhas, em dois sentidos. Primeiro, quando você se fixa, mata oportunidades de trabalhar em outras cidades ou países. Além disso, quem assume prestações pesadas e inflexíveis por muito tempo geralmente assume menos riscos na carreira, riscos esses que trazem aumento de renda e novas experiências. Um jovem casal precisa ter consciência que enquanto não estiver satisfeito com o que se ganha – e nenhum jovem deveria estar – flexibilidade é elemento chave pra você crescer. O aluguel é um parceiro importantíssimo dessa flexibilidade. Quando você assume um estilo de vida inflexível começa a ser pressionado para manter aquele estilo de vida. Faz com que a carreira estacione.

Então os recém-casados não precisam necessariamente ter uma casa própria?
Eu acho que eles necessariamente não devem comprar casa própria. Caso queiram comprar, devem tratar o imóvel como investimento e não casa própria, que você quebra parede e instala cozinha americana. Por exemplo, você acabou de casar, viu uma oportunidade com um alto potencial de valorização e saiu do aluguel por causa disso, ótimo. Mas não instale móveis planejados ali e prepare-se para a mudança. A partir do momento que aquele imóvel valorizar, é hora de vender e partir para o próximo. Mais perto dos 40 anos, a renda é maior, você acumulou FGTS e pode entrar no financiamento para quitar o imóvel em 10 anos, ao invés de ficar 30 anos pagando. Meu convite é para os que jovens diminuam o gasto fixo, continuem aproveitando o que motivou o casamento, como romantismo, lazer, cuidado de um com o outro, e experimentem a vida para criar condições de ganho.

Quais são os principais erros que os casais cometem?
O primeiro é não conversar. Quando você conversa, um entende melhor as ambições do outro. O segundo é se esforçar demais para prestar contas para a sociedade, que significa ostentar um estilo de vida incompatível com o casal. Conversar pouco e mobilizar demais o orçamento são os principais. Mas há outros. Por exemplo, se preocupar demais com a rotina do casamento e não os sonhos futuros. Ou se preocupar com o sonho de um só. Num relacionamento, um mais um dá três. É preciso realizar os sonhos dele, os dela e os típicos de casal. Podem demorar mais para acontecer, mas a motivação é maior.

E quando uma das partes ganha muito mais que a outra? Existe alguma dica de como lidar com isso?
A melhor solução no meu entender é única. Não existe dinheiro meu e dinheiro dela. Ambos se esforçam para que se maximize o que casal pode fazer em termos de realização. Se há uma situação em que um ganha mais, o que ganha menos deve chamar para si responsabilidade de dar suporte para aquela carreira que está sendo mais interessante nesse momento. Mas deve-se discutir continuamente a possibilidade de inverter esse papel. Profissões que remuneram muito bem geralmente desgastam mais a pessoa. E a pessoa que ganha mais e está recebendo esse suporte precisa ouvir o outro e continuamente questionar se há felicidade, realização.

Você pode falar um pouco sobre o seu próximo livro?
No Adeus, Aposentadoria, eu contesto uma lógica maluca que as pessoas estão seguindo para o fim da carreira, que é excessivamente sacrificante, mas chega num resultado que não é gratificante. Proponho uma mudança de modelo: não se aposentar mais. Como? Entre outras coisas, moldando uma carreira para que você possa trabalhar até os 80, 90 anos de idade. Que chegue um momento em que você se aposenta pela formalidade do termo, dá entrada no INSS, mas aí muda sua maneira de ganhar dinheiro fazendo algo que te apaixone. Para muita gente, carreira é sinônimo de começo, meio e fim, o fim sendo aposentadoria. Eu encaro a aposentadoria como o começo da melhor fase do dinheiro na vida das pessoas, desde que as pessoas se preparem pra isso.

O trabalho às vezes é visto como um fardo. Você defende que viver bem é gostar do que se faz?
Até certo ponto. Porque principalmente os jovens não podem confundir a ideia de fazer o que se gosta com a ideia de sempre fazer o que se gosta. Se eu quero chegar a um ponto em que eu faço o que gosto, eu tenho que entrar na situação de fazer o que eu não gosto, que é o começo de qualquer carreira. Num segundo momento, você vai conseguir fazer escolhas. E essas escolhas não são para a vida toda. Estar empregado é uma oportunidade de reservar parte do que se ganha e lá na frente ter o próprio dinheiro para, na aposentadoria da carreira, trabalhar para si mesmo. Seja como empreendedor ou investidor. O tempo de trabalho é um tempo de aprendizado para o empreendedorismo. E, para mim, empreendedorismo não é necessariamente abrir um negócio. Você pode ter uma atitude empreendedora com dois ou três imóveis que já comprou estudando a hora certa de comprar, vender ou alugar.
